History
The School of Economics of The University of Tuebingen is one of the
oldest economics faculties in Germany. It was founded in 1817 as the
ãStaatswirtschaftliche Fakultaet.Ò In 1992 the Faculty
celebrated its 175th anniversary as the
ãWirtschafts-wissenschaftliche Fakultaet.Ò
During the nineteenth century the main goal of the Faculty was the
education of government administrators. The Faculty worked in close
cooperation with the Faculty of Law. Early in the twentieth century
the Faculty began to focus on economic theory and policy.
From 1922 until 1970 the faculties of Economics and Law were united as
the Faculty of Law and Economics. Economics was taught in the
Economics Department.
In 1967 a second curriculum in Business Administration Education was
added to the Department of Economics. In 1970 the School of Law and
Economics was reorganized, and the Faculty of Economics received its
present name, the ãWirtschaftswissenschaftliche
Fakultaet.Ò
In 1981 the Business Administration Education curriculum was expanded
into a curriculum in Business Administration. This expansion produced
a large increase in student enrollment in the Faculty of Economics.
